Politics❓{Day XCII}

As the title implies, I am considering having this blog be more of a “political” blog, than a “general” “personal” blog. There are pros and cons for focusing solely in the “political realm.” Maybe it is just “too early” in the life of this blog to be focused soley in the “political sphere.” Even though I was a “politics and history” major, I don’t know if I should limit my thinking or writing to what’s happening in Washington or in the nation. I do have other interests. I’ll keep my options open.

“Disloyal” {Day XCIII}

Just finished Michael Cohen’s memoir about him being the “fixer,” and attorney for Donald J. Trump.  Cohen worked in the Trump Organization prior to Trump becoming the president of the United States.  After Trump assumed office Cohen was arrested for a number of offenses he did working for the Trump Org.

The book is a cautionary tale of a CEO for a small privately held company who has authoritarian impulses to become president of a nation and compromise checks and balances and rule of law of a two hundred forty-four year old democracy.

Changes❓ {Day XCI}

I am open to changing few things about my blog.  But some things will remain the same.  What remains is the format that I will write one blog post each day.  Each day the length of each post increases by one word.

Changes I had considered include changing the title of each blog post.  I do write about a variety of topics, but you can not discern the contents of each post by looking at the title, because the title of each blog post is a serial number in Roman Numerals.

Roman Numerals {Day XC}

“Day 9️⃣0️⃣,” which brings me to an interesting crossroads in my “experiment in Roman numerals,” numbering my blog posts. My previous post, “Day 8️⃣9️⃣,” “Day LXXXIX,” which is the correct “spelling” of the Roman numeral for the number 89. The next post is this, which is simply XC, or “100 minus 10.”

There are “rules” for Roman numerals, such as “any number represented by a nine is the next number minus the last place holder.” [I may have this rule incorrect, as I am not a mathematician, nor a linguist.]

Trump’s Appeal {Day LXXXIX}

Former President Trump is suing to prevent documents relevant the January 6th storming of the United States Capitol from being reviewed by a congressional committee investigating the January 6th riots.  Trump’s goal is to delay the process as much as he can until the mid term elections of 2022, when the control of Congress will most likely switch from a slim Democratic majority to a slim Republican majority. With a Republican control of Congress, the committee to investigate the riots of January 6, 2021 will most likely be dissolved.

After two score, the musical group ABBA released their ninth studio album, “Voyage,” which I have just listened. ABBA wrote and performed these songs on their own terms, with a large portion of the folk rock that they wanted to record, not burdened by the pressure to crank out the mega hits that they churned out in the seventies. ABBA has once again, truly has “arrived.”

If I continued to write my daily blog for forty years, each blog post would be 1️⃣4️⃣,6️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ words. I’m on my way.

WORLD WIDE:              2️⃣5️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ TOTAL CASES.    2️⃣3️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ RECOVERED.   2️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ ACTIVE CASES.       5️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ DEATHS

UNITED STATES:                                5️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ TOTAL CASES.        4️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ RECOVERED.             1️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ ACTIVE CASES.             8️⃣0️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ DEATHS.

These figures are from http://www.Worldometers.info.                       Figures are not exact due to rounding up or down. But you get the gist.

Don’t be fooled.  The coronavirus, aka COVID-19, is still with us. Whether it is in the form of the “Delta Variant,” or it takes the form of some new variant or variety, COVID is likely here to stay.

Please stay safe.

I’m awake, and the sun hasn’t risen. Isn’t the point of dailylight savings time to set your clocks back one hour so that it gets “lighter” in the morning?… Now the sun will set at 4:30pm, or even 4:00pm

Any way you “slice it,” we get just as much sunlight as we would have if we didn’t set our clocks an hour behind. We are going to have less and less sunshine until January 1️⃣, 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣2️⃣ , so we might as well “get used to it now.”

Day 8️⃣5️⃣. Day 1️⃣ of STANDARD TIME in the United States of America.  New York City five hours behind London.

As we set our clocks back one hour in the United States, it’s going to be lighter sooner in the day.  If you are an “early bird,” you are going to love the new setting of the clocks.  For other people, I just say: “Get your chores completed earlier in the day.” With less sunlight we are getting into the “dark ages” of the year.

Tonight most jurisdictions in the United States will “turn the clock back” one hour to ceremoniously and in actuality, end “daylight savings time” for the year, and return to “standard time.

This amounts to a one hour earlier sunrise or a one hour earlier sunset during the afternoon than the previous day.   In effect, that means that instead of the sun setting at 5:30pm, it will set at 4:30pm.  I prefer later sunsets, as I do not like driving or walking in the dark.
